We all shop! Whether it is going to the grocery store for our food, Target for our clothes, or Best Buy for our electronics. I wanted to share with you the 3 apps I use most often to save money while shopping.
Especially during the Holidays, we find ourselves bouncing between retail stores such as Target, Macy’s, Best Buy, Old Navy, and many more. Shopkick allows you to capitalize on those visits. You earn “kicks” for simply walking into the store, scanning items, or making purchases. These “kicks” can be used to redeem all kinds of goodies. Everything from Starbucks gift cards and Redbox rentals, to iPads and cruises. As a gamer, I find myself redeeming Game Stop gift cards. How fast you acquire “kicks” depends on how often you shop, but by popping into the stores that are right next to each other, scanning a few things here and there, and making purchases you were already going to make; you will find they rack up pretty fast. I redeemed a $25 Restaurant.com gift certificate within a month of starting to use the app. It is one of those “you’ve got nothing to lose” kind of apps.
As convenient as it is, shopping retail is actually the most expensive way to shop. I have been a long time member of Amazon Prime. For a nominal $99/yr, you get unlimited free 2 day shipping, a digital movie stream similar to Netflix, and much more. If I am at a retail store and find something I like, but don’t need immediately, I can scan the barcode with the Amazon app to check the price. If it is cheaper (which it usually is, by a good amount) I can buy the item in just one click. Two days later, a package arrives on my doorstep. Using the Amazon Prime service will save you a significant amount of time and money, just as it has done for me. Think about all the lines and stress you can avoid by doing your holiday shopping behind a computer. The best part is, just about anything you can find in store, you can find on Amazon. This app and service have changed the way we shop entirely!
3. Grocery IQ
The days of grocery list magnets on the refrigerator are over. With an app like GroceryIQ, the entire family can help keep your list up to date. It works in real time so even if you’re at the store, and someone at home adds something to the list, you will be notified. It is a great way to ensure everyone gets what they need, and avoids additional trips to the store. Some items have coupons associated with them that you can redeem from your phone. Yet another great way to save a couple extra bucks. You can create as many different lists as you need. For instance, I have one for HEB, Petsmart, and Home Depot. It is really easy to use, and helps keep our family organized.
There are a lot of apps out there to help save money while shopping, but these are my favorite three. They are available on both iOS and Android, so you can utilize them no matter what you use. Give them a shot, and let us know what you think. We would love to hear about your experience, or other apps you use while shopping.
